So last week Jeb Bush announced that his brother George W. was a chief foreign policy advisor, especially on Middle East issues.
Let that marinate for a deeply disturbing moment.
A little longer.
Have you face palmed yet?
Is Bernie Madoff his choice for treasury secretary?
One of the people in the room jotted down Jeb’s comment as such: “What you need to know is that who I listen to when I need advice on the Middle East is George W. Bush.”
There has been no indication that he meant that he uses his brother’s advice as a cautionary tale, or a bizarro world advice scheme where whatever George says he’ll do the opposite.
Later in the week he added (and I promise that if you didn’t face palm before, you will now) that he would also have invaded Iraq. Hey, fine he’s entitled to continue to misrepresent everything we’ve learned since 2003 and continue to idiotically cling to the same addlepated story his brother and the other neocon war criminals have spouted for a dozen years. But leave Hillary out of this.
“I would have [authorized the invasion], and so would have Hillary Clinton, just to remind everybody. And so would almost everybody that was confronted with the intelligence they got,” Bush told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly in an interview scheduled to air Monday.
Yes, she voted to authorize the use of force. But would she have actually invaded while inspectors were on the ground doing their jobs to substantiate or refute the bad intelligence from such remarkably unreliable sources as “Curveball”?
It’s all speculation, but if Hillary Clinton (hawkish reputation notwithstanding) had been president in 2001-2003 it is highly unlikely that any invasion of Iraq would have been conceived of, no less embarked upon. Without neocons like Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld in the room trying to connect 9/11 to Saddam, there’s no effort to bring Iraq into any so called “war on terror.”
I almost want to see Jeb get the nomination so he can repeat that line on a debate stage across from Hillary to see what she says. But I don’t think that’s a gonna happen no matter how hard Jebbie kisses right wing evangelical ass. They’re just not that into him.
But his efforts are hilarious and appreciated.
P.S. I assumed that Jeb’s comments were predicated on the intelligence at the time, certainly not on what we now know because if you’d still invade based on what we know now you’re just an idiot. Even Laura Ingraham thinks so
“You have to have someone who says, look, I’m a Republican but I’m not an idiot! I’m not stupid!” she said. “I learn from the past and I improve myself.”
Um, yeah. I agree with Laura Ingraham. This… one… time.
