This is the kind of damning anti-Trump opinion, from Republican officials, that will find its way into a Hillary ad. NYT reports
Fifty of the nation’s most senior Republican national security officials, many of them former top aides or cabinet members for President George W. Bush, have signed a letter declaring that Donald J. Trump “lacks the character, values and experience” to be president and “would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being.”
The names on here are a who’s who of serious GOP security officials, that wil make heads at Fox News explode: Michael Hayden, Eliot Cohen, John “Death Squads” Negroponte, Tom Ridge, Michael Chertoff, William H Taft IV – you don’t get more Republican than a Taft for crying out fuck.
The only names missing are the living GOP secretaries of state, Kissinger, Schultz, Baker, Powell and Rice, however there are top people who worked with them that are here and for Powell, at least, who endorsed Obama in 2008 and 2012, it seems it’s just a matter of time before he denounces Trump. Baker and Rice would not surprise me in joining that club as well. Whereas Kissinger worked with Nixon, and when compared with that bundle of prejudices, bitterness and personal axes to grind, Trump might seem somewhat normal. Might!
Some of the 50 say they will vote for Hillary, some say they won’t vote at all. While I’m always puzzled why anybody would choose to be a Republican, I applaud anyone with the integrity to choose country over party.
From a foreign policy perspective, Donald Trump is not qualified to be President and Commander-in-Chief. Indeed, we are convinced that he would be a dangerous President and would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being.
