November 8, 2016, Five Months On

With Justice Gorsuch going to be sworn in, kind of essential and vital to repeat and remind:

If you voted for Trump or Stein or Johnson you voted for a continuation of a Christianist, corporatist, conservative Supreme Court.*

If you could have voted for Russ Feingold, Patrick Murphy, Katie McGinty or other Democrat running for Senate, and you didn’t, you voted for a continuation of a Christianist, corporatist, conservative Supreme Court.

Opportunity blown in so many ways, but this was the biggest, fattest, hanging curveball down the middle of the plate that should have been crushed out of the park. Should have been enough to galvanize progressives to do what logic, strategy, self-preservation, dictated.

Enough to make one despair that it wasn’t.

* the asterisk in this case represents my unwillingness to use an asterisk and excuse voters not in “swing states”. I suppose if you swear that you would have voted for Clinton had you been in a swing state, we have to give you the benefit of the doubt. But arguments for protest votes were pretty iffy given the stakes, 5 months on those arguments look less cogent than ever given the reality of Trump.
