It Had to Exist – The ICE Memo That Told Agents “Deport ‘Em All” Surfaces

When ICE agents in far flung backwaters started deporting undocumented people who hadn’t committed crimes, or had minor misdemeanors, you knew that they didn’t make those decisions themselves.  ProPublica got the memo from ICE that told those Agents that the new double secret policy was to deport anybody they got in custody.  The Trump administration’s stated policy of just deporting convicted criminals was a lie.

In a February memo, Matthew Albence, a career official who heads the Enforcement and Removal Operations division of ICE, informed his 5,700 deportation officers that, “effective immediately, ERO officers will take enforcement action against all removable aliens encountered in the course of their duties.”

David Bier, an immigration policy analyst at the libertarian Cato Institute, said the fallout from the memo has been evident for months. “The memo explains what we have actually been seeing on the ground,” Bier said, asserting that immigrants without criminal backgrounds were routinely being arrested and ordered deported.

No surprise, the Trump people have been lying about this for six months.  They essentially lie about everything, but claim that if you say they lie it’s Fake News.  It’s an unprecedented level of autocratic dishonesty for our erstwhile democracy.
